ARCHITEXTURAL DIGEST

"This season Montauk stalwart Gurney’s has debuted 42 refurbished guest rooms. An extensive renovation by designer Michael Kramer of Michael Thomas & Co. brought a modern look to the 90-year-old property through a neutral color palette, reclaimed-wood ceilings and floors, dip-dyed drapery, and handmade furniture. The resort will also host rooftop pop-ups for beachy fashion brands like LemLem, Mara Hoffman, and Edie Parker."

FORBES

"In 2014, new owners invested in a multi-year, multi-phased and multi-million-dollar head-to-toe redo of the sprawling complex. During the first phase, designer Michael Kramer enhanced the function and design of public spaces and a wing of rooms. He introduced a contemporary beachy vibe — using earth tones, reclaimed woods, white custom-built sofas and one-of-a-kind pieces — to make you feel as if you have your own spacious, airy and comfortably-casual beach house."

DUJOUR

"Thanks to a $5 million makeover by designer Michael Kramer that’s refurbished 71 existing rooms, suites and cottages and added 38 new guest rooms to the property, the once-tired Gurney’s Inn has been transformed and rebranded as Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa—just in time for the peak summer season. The resort, originally built during Prohibition in 1926, was first a dry hotel, but now boasting numerous bars and a vast oceanfront it is decidedly anything but.”

AM NEW YORK

“The overall look is classic beach house with industrial touches, such as Edison bulbs. New York designer (and 27-year-old wunderkind) Michael Kramer used pale wooden floors in guest rooms as well as sleek furnishings. Spacious bathrooms feature oversized subway tiles and black pebble floors in the showers. To make the most of the ocean views, the new guest rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, as well as private verandahs with mini daybeds.”

"Last year, struggling Montauk resort Gurney's Inn was taken over by real estate moguls George Filopoulos and Lloyd Goldman. A multi-phase, multi-year refresh and renovation means that Gurney's will soon have a sleek new look. First up is a brand new 38-room oceanfront building, with private verandas and floor to ceiling windows encasing custom built furniture and wire brushed hardwood floors. The new aesthetic is the work of Michael Kramer, a young designer who is already considered one of New York's most impressive new talents.”
